Colombian Leader Petro Calls on Trump to Break Ties with Netanyahu
Speaking at the Friday funeral in Chicago for US civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, Petro praised Jackson as a “living symbol of the struggle for freedom” for people of African descent across the Americas.
Addressing the ongoing Middle East conflict, Petro said, “Today is the time for the US president to completely separate himself from the person who is pushing humanity toward the abyss.” He emphasized the need for global unity in response to the crisis.
“It is time for all of us to come together because there is no weapon capable of stopping missiles,” Petro said. “The only thing that can stand against them is the power of words backed by the masses, by all humanity.”
Petro placed responsibility for the conflict on Netanyahu and stressed the urgency of achieving peace in the region. His remarks received strong applause from attendees, with some rising in support.
During the ceremony, Petro was also briefly seen speaking with former US President Barack Obama, as stated by reports.
